Since
1994, NAESM's Department of Client Services has provided socioecomomic
services to people with HIV/AIDS. Services now available at NAESM
include:
Long
Term Transitional Housing: Gerald's House
Gerald's House,
formerly AESM House, opened its doors in 1994 with the objective
being to provide a safe, secure and nurturing environment for men
living with HIV/AIDS who were homeless or marginally housed until
they were able to locate and be placed into permanent, affordable,
and appropriate housing. Residents of Gerald's House will receive
counseling, case management services, nutritional counseling, peer
support, and assistance in locating and placement into permanent
housing. Since 1994, more than 200 men have resided at Gerald's
House.
Gerald Anthony
Ludd served as a board member and treasurer of NAESM. He was awarded
the Life Time Award for Excellence in support of HIV/AIDS
Awareness in 1996.
Case
Management
Case
Management services are available both for residents of AESM House
and for clients who come into the Administrative Office.
Transportation
Assistance
Transportation
in the form of public transit tokens is provided to clients of NAESM
to keep medical appointments or seek employment or job training.
Mae Gratis Reed Food
Pantry
NAESM's Mae Gratis Reed Food Pantry gives food to persons with HIV/AIDS who lack the resources
to buy food. Proper nutrition is essential, particularly for individuals
with compromised immune systems. The medical regimen for persons
with HIV/AIDS can be neglected if they lack food which may be required
to take or digest their medicine. Individuals who receive proper
nutrition can improve their health status. This can enable them
to remain employed, avoid homelessness, and remain independent.
The Mae Gratis Reed
Food Pantry is supported by individual donations, some community
support, government or foundation grants, the number of individuals
we have been able to help does not match the number of requests.
Clothing
Closet
The
Clothing Closet of NAESM distributes clothes to persons/individuals
with HIV/AIDS. It is another essential service offered to our clients.
Through the generosity of concerned individuals, we are usually
able to provide "recycled or "gently used clothing"
to individuals who lack the financial resources to purchase new
clothes. Very often, this service will enable clients to put together
a proper wardrobe for job interviews or to have proper work attire.
NAESM
accepts donations of recycled or "gently used" clothing
for men, women, and children.
